Mobile health camp screens over 800 residents across Kokrajhar villages
Anaemia and hypertension checks are the focus of the week-long drive
A mobile health camp touring remote villages in Kokrajhar district has already screened more than 800 residents this week. Organised jointly by the district health department and a non-profit partner, the camp is focused primarily on anaemia and high blood pressure.
A nurse overseeing the camp said initial screening has found notably high rates of anaemia among women and adolescent girls. "We're giving every patient the necessary advice and prescriptions, and referring serious cases to the district hospital," she said.
For many villagers, the camp is a rare opportunity — the nearest hospital is roughly fifteen kilometres away. "We haven't had this kind of screening in years. Now at least we know where we stand," one elderly resident said.
The camp also includes child nutrition checks and a separate section for pregnant women. Officials said two more villages will host similar camps in the coming weeks.
A district health official said such camps do more than diagnose illness — they build awareness. "Our goal is to bring basic healthcare to every remote village," the official said.
