Bihu dance rehearsals begin across Tamulpur villages ahead of Bohag Bihu
Husori troupes prepare to make their rounds village to village
With Bohag Bihu approaching, Bihu dance rehearsals are in full swing across Tamulpur's villages. Every evening, young people gather in the courtyards of village prayer halls to practise dance steps to the beat of dhol, pepa and toka.
"Every year around Bihu, the older generation teaches the younger one. This year we're keeping that tradition going too," a veteran performer said.
The head of one husori troupe said the group would begin making its rounds from village to village starting this week. "We share blessings and joy at every house — that's the real beauty of Bihu," he said.
A local youth association has built a large stage for this year's celebrations, where performers from across the district will take turns performing.
The Tamulpur administration is also supporting the festivities and has promised stronger security arrangements in villages through Bihu week.
